The Quiet Presence of Croagh Patrick
The Quiet Presence of Croagh Patrick
There are places that become part of our lives even if we have never walked every step ourselves. The Quiet Presence of Croagh Patrick is one of those places for me.
Although I have never climbed this remarkable mountain, my father did, and many years later so did my son as a young man. Both spoke of the experience long afterwards, not simply as a physical journey, but as something that stayed with them. Through their stories, Croagh Patrick became woven into my own memories and imagination, carrying a quiet significance across generations of my family.
In this painting I wasn't trying to create a literal portrait of the mountain. Instead, I wanted to capture its stillness and enduring presence. Framed by the trees and reflected in calm water, the mountain feels almost contemplative, as though it has patiently watched countless lives, pilgrimages and personal journeys unfold beneath it.
Soft blues and greens create a sense of peace, while the layered textures speak of time, memory and the landscapes that quietly shape who we become.
For me, this painting is about more than a famous Irish landmark. It is about connection, between parent and child, between generations, and between people and place. It invites the viewer to pause, reflect and perhaps remember a landscape that has become part of their own story.
